A Statuesque Day

The day started with lots of rain, but it stopped right when we parked our car and began walking toward the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. Of course, as fate would have it, it was right after I had purchased 4 umbrellas from a very trusty street vendor. (I'm sure they are of the highest quality--though one began rusting when it got a little bit of water on it--imagine that).

We had a great time at the Statue of Liberty, riding the ferry, walking around, looking up into the base and hearing the history. Did you know we used to be friends with the French?

On the drive from NYC to Washington D.C., we were delayed by a bad accident on the interstate. We had to re-route on some back roads, but Bertha was good to us and we didn't lose too much time (more about Bertha later).

On a whim, I decided to change our hotel reservations. I checked Hotwire, and reserved 3 nights at a much cheaper hotel for a much better price. In fact, we are walking distance from the Capitol at a Hyatt Regency where Butch, Jeff, Tony and I stayed in May during a conference. The best price we could get at that time was $229/night. However, with a last minute reservation, I was able to get a room for $76/night. As a recovering tightwad, I'm feeling pretty good about that decision.
